Capital Digestive Care is pleased to announce the addition of Sunamita A. da Silva, MS, RDN, PA-C
Sunamita A. da Silva, MS, RDN, PA-C, to our Rockville, Olney, and Silver Spring, Md. offices.
Sunamita’s desire to become a medical provider stemmed from a lifelong passion for caring for others. She watched her father struggle to manage his chronic diseases due to a lack of proper guidance, an experience that inspired her to try to bridge that gap. She aims to ensure that others receive the support and information they need to manage their health effectively.
Today, Sunamita is a physician assistant (PA) and registered dietitian nutritionist who is particularly focused on the brain-gut-microbiome axis and how it can be applied, along with nutrition and conventional medical therapies, to treat and manage malabsorptive, motility, and functional disorders. She has special interest in the following conditions:
- Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
- Crohn’s disease
- Ulcerative colitis
- Celiac disease
- Short bowel syndrome
- Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Gastroparesis
Sunamita believes that quality of life is just as important as longevity and that helping people manage their health allows them to enjoy precious time with their loved ones and live fulfilling lives.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in communication at the University of Miami, Sunamita pursued a master’s in clinical nutrition at New York University, Steinhardt. She earned a second master’s in health sciences with a focus on physician assistant studies at George Washington University.
“My approach to patient care focuses on treating the patient as a whole, considering not just their physical symptoms but also their emotional and social well-being,” Sunamita said. “I believe in building strong relationships, listening actively, and collaborating with patients to develop personalized treatment plans that enhance their overall quality of life.”
Before joining Capital Digestive Care, Sunamita completed rotations in inpatient medicine, primary care, pediatrics, surgery, emergency medicine, behavioral medicine, women’s health, and cardiology as part of George Washington University’s physician assistant program.
Outside the office, Sunamita values spending quality time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors through hiking, and enjoying all things gardening. She also loves to read and discover other cultures through their cuisines. She has recently taken up candle making and enjoys experimenting with new candle fragrances.
