Capital Digestive Care’s Chief Operating Officer Kevin Harlen MSPH, FACHE, has led the practice through its evolution into the largest independent GI practice in the Mid-Atlantic. In a recent interview, he sat down with the Co-President of PE Gastro to discuss the company’s accomplishments. Harlen credits Capital Digestive Care’s success to the strategy of remaining physician-led while partnering with executive teams to manage the administrative functions of a medical practice, allowing physicians to focus on delivering outstanding patient care.
He went on to explain that the practice has created scalable operations through an executive management team, a central business office supporting 17 clinical offices and a pathology laboratory. Overall, he said the practice has grown in capabilities, seeing more than 75,000 patients per year seeking a wide spectrum of digestive health services. But beyond that, he said Capital Digestive Care has built a culture around quality, expertise, and accessibility.
Kevin Harlen also delved into the future of private practice GI groups, which he said looks bright. He believes group consolidation can meet the needs of aging, and other, populations while resulting in stronger regional coverage. Read more of his conversation with PE by clicking here.
