Hemorrhoids are groups of blood vessels in the anus or lower rectum that serve a physiological function when they are not inflamed or irritated. Common symptoms include discomfort around the rectum and blood in the stool. The two most common types of treatment include IRC, or infra-red coagulation, and hemorrhoid banding. At-home relief includes sitting in a warm bath or using over-the-counter preparation cream such as Preparation H, Anusol, Tucks Pads or medicated wipes. Hemmorhoid sufferers should see a physician who can determine the cause of the problem and help treat it.
