This year, World Digestive Health Day is dedicated to the early diagnosis and treatment of GI cancer.  The World Gastroenterology Organisation chose this focus because cancer is currently the second leading cause of death globally.  In fact, the organization says 4 of the 7 most common cancers take root in the digestive system.  But the number of deaths caused by cancer can be reduced when populations avoid key risk factors, engage in early detection, get proper screenings, and receive timely treatment.
