Dr. Lawrence Bassin visits WBAL during GERD Awareness Week

Capital Digestive Care gastroenterologist Lawrence Bassin, MD visits WBAL TV during GERD awareness week to talk about the signs and symptoms of GERD and when to see a doctor.

November 18th – 24th has been designated as National GERD Awareness Week. As part of GERD Awareness Week, Capital Digestive Care launched an initiative to increase awareness about the importance of screening for GERD, or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, a condition that can lead to precancerous conditions in the esophagus. Last year alone, Capital Digestive Care treated more than 14,000 patients with symptoms of GERD. According to Dr. Bassin and the American College of Gastroenterology, frequent heartburn can be a sign of reflux disease and early detection is the key to preventing the disease from escalating into a more serious condition.
