Biography
Dr. Sneha Patel’s mother, who is a dentist, inspired her to pursue a career in medicine. She witnessed the lifelong relationships her mother built with her patients, the importance of both disease prevention and health maintenance, and the benefits of continued curiosity and medical education throughout one’s career.
Today, as a board-certified, fellowship-trained gastroenterologist, Dr. Patel sees patients of varying ages with a broad range of acute and chronic illnesses. For Dr. Patel, the most meaningful part of providing patient care is enabling her patients to feel comfortable expressing their concerns, so they can be open and honest about their health. She is comfortable working within all areas of gastroenterology, and she has particular interest in the following conditions:
- – Colon cancer screening
- – Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- – Functional diseases
- – Women’s health
Dr. Patel graduated from a seven-year combined bachelor’s and medical degree program at the College of New Jersey/Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She completed residency training and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY, serving as chief fellow during her final year.
“My priorities for patient care include communication and education to ensure that my patients have a clear understanding of their chronic illness. I value being an advocate for my patients and collaborating with them to understand their concerns before formulating a treatment plan,” Dr. Patel said.
Before joining Capital Digestive Care, Dr. Patel served as chief gastroenterology fellow at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY. She has participated in medical mission trips to Peru, where she became proficient in medical Spanish, as well as to a small district hospital in Uganda. She has presented her research on diverticulitis, microscopic colitis, GI bleeding, and C. diff at national meetings.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends, as well as traveling and cooking.
