Biography

Dr. John H. Smith is a board-certified, fellowship-trained gastroenterologist. He takes time to develop a personal relationship with his patients, which helps him to individualize each patient’s care. He has particular interest in the following conditions:

  • General gastroenterology conditions
  • Liver diseases

Dr. Smith completed his undergraduate study at East Tennessee State University before earning his medical degree at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine. He pursued his internship and residency training at the National Naval Medical Center, followed by a gastroenterology fellowship at the National Capital Consortium.

Dr. Smith has served as an assistant professor of internal medicine at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He was head of the gastroenterology and endoscopy department as well as assistant program director of the internal medicine residency program at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.

When he is not at work, Dr. Smith likes to spend time reading.
