Biography

Dr. G. Shelton McMullan has always loved working with people and is fascinated with the study of medicine. He brings both of these traits to his work as a board-certified, fellowship-trained gastroenterologist. His goal is to help individuals understand their health concerns and to work with them to optimally alleviate them.

He is comfortable working in all areas of gastroenterology, and he has a particular interest in the following conditions and procedures:

  • Reflux disease
  • Liver disease
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Colorectal cancer screening

After completing his undergraduate degree in English language and literature at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, Dr. McMullan earned his medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He completed his internship and residency training at The George Washington University Hospital and pursued additional fellowship training in gastroenterology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

“My focus remains on listening to my patients and patiently working with them to address and alleviate their concerns,” Dr. McMullan said. “I aim to empower them in taking control of their health and realizing that ours is a true team effort. My effort has always been the same that I would provide for any of my family members.”

Prior to joining Capital Digestive Care, Dr. McMullan practiced as a gastroenterologist at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center’s Center for Digestive Disease. He has contributed to the advancement of the field through publications in peer-reviewed medical journals and presentations at professional conferences.

When he’s not working, Dr. McMullan loves spending time with his family, traveling, and playing sports of all kinds.
