Biography
Dr. Alan Tieu is a board-certified, fellowship-trained gastroenterologist. He is dedicated to providing compassionate care to each of his patients, seeking to care for each of them as he would care for his own family members.
He has particular interest in the following conditions:
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Esophageal cancer
- Colorectal cancer
- Fatty liver diseases
Dr. Tieu earned his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC. He completed residency training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, before going on to pursue a gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at Johns Hopkins. He served as chief gastroenterology fellow in his final year. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
While at Johns Hopkins, he also completed a master’s degree in clinical research at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Tieu has won clinical and research awards from Johns Hopkins Hospital and has authored more than 40 published papers in top journals including Gastroenterology, Lancet, Cancers, Clinical Gastroenterology, and Endoscopy.
Outside the office, Dr. Tieu enjoys spending time with family, cooking, traveling, and playing competitive badminton.
