Capital Digestive Care is pleased to announce the addition of Emma Goethel, PA-C, to our Virginia Beach First Colonial office. Although she had always been fascinated by science and medicine, her interest in becoming a physician assistant (PA) began when she tore a knee ligament in high school. She views PAs as effective bridges between patients and medicine.
Today, Emma is a certified physician assistant who is dedicated to caring for people. Her work combines human connection and clinical knowledge with compassion to appropriately treat her patients. She looks beyond the condition to treat the person behind the symptoms. Emma provides general gastroenterology (GI) care with a strong interest in the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases.
Emma earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Virginia Commonwealth University. She then attended South University, graduating with a master’s in physician assistant studies.
“As a physician assistant, I highly value the importance of building a personal relationship with my patients. Commonly in medicine, there are many ways to treat one diagnosis. By understanding the person you are treating, you can better align their care with what works best for them and their way of life,” Emma said. “Medicine is a science, but it is also an art that can be tailored to each patient based on their expectations and goals.”
Before joining Capital Digestive Care, Emma spent three years working in emergency medicine, where she diagnosed and treated many acute GI conditions.
Emma enjoys staying active outside of work. She and her husband love going on outdoor adventures with their labrador retriever, who is happiest in the water or playing fetch.
