Capital Digestive Care is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Seema Patil to our Columbia and Laurel, MD offices.
Dr. Patil was drawn to a career in healthcare because, to her, medicine is the perfect marriage of science and service. She views patient care as a privilege and is honored to be able to spend her time improving the health of her community.
She is a board-certified, fellowship-trained gastroenterologist who enjoys working with digestive disorders as they navigate the complexities of their disease and treatment options. Her goal is to help them achieve and maintain healthy and full lives. She has particular interest in the following conditions and procedures:
- Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
- Crohn’s disease
- Ulcerative colitis
Dr. Patil earned her undergraduate degree in biology from Columbia University in New York City, followed by her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. She completed her residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and pursued further specialization with a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
“I believe in shared decision making, combining my knowledge with the patient’s perspective to determine the best path to their health,” she said.
Dr. Patil has served in many roles at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and University of Maryland Medical Center, helping teach and train the next generation of doctors and gastroenterologists. Before joining Capital Digestive Care, Dr. Patil was on the faculty of the University of Maryland Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program for 14 years, during which she served as Associate Director and Director. She has also contributed to the field of gastroenterology with over 40 publications and served as Fellowship Program Director. She was selected as a Baltimore Magazine Top Doctor in 2024.
