Ann Marie Stephenson Thomas, DO, MBA, FACOI, FAAOE

Biography

Dr. Ann Marie Stephenson Thomas’s love for medicine was engendered as early as elementary school and continued as a high school volunteer “candy striper” at the local hospital in her hometown, Willingboro, New Jersey. After graduating high school and with the goal of attending medical school, she enrolled at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduation, she entered Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and the five-year dual degree program in conjunction with Saint Joseph’s University. As a third-year medical student, she completed her master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in health and medical services.

Dr. Stephenson Thomas completed internship training at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the urban confines of North Philadelphia. She subsequently completed internal medicine residency at Frankford Hospitals in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

After residency, she completed a fellowship in geriatrics at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey’s Institute for Successful Aging. Dr. Stephenson Thomas then continued further in post-graduate training to complete a gastroenterology fellowship in Chicago, Illinois at Midwestern University in 2011. Sadly, her father, Dr. Paul L. Stephenson, passed away of stomach cancer during Dr. Stephenson Thomas’s first year of gastroenterology fellowship in June of 2009.

Currently Dr. Stephenson Thomas is a physician partner at Capital Digestive Care. Dr. Stephenson Thomas was appointed by Governor Larry Hogan in 2016 to the Maryland State Board of Physicians. She has also been voted Top Doctor by her peers multiple times. She is a fellow of both the American College of Osteopathic Internist and the American Association of Osteopathic Examiners.

From a more personal perspective, she is grateful for the support of her loving husband and son.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Stephenson Thomas is a diehard Philadelphia sports fan. Besides traveling abroad, she enjoys several outdoor sports, such as boating and hiking. She plays golf and is passionate about volunteering, and community outreach.
