Capital Digestive Care would like to honor Dr. Nelson Trujillo, a beloved colleague, friend, father and grandfather who held a fierce love for his work as a physician. A veteran of the United States Army, he received the Army Commendation Medal and served as Assistant Chief of Gastroenterology at Walter Reed Army Hospital. Following his military career, Dr. Trujillo established himself in private practice in Washington, D.C. where he continued to care for patients for more than 30 years while also serving as a Medical Consultant to the Department of State and the White House. He believed in healing not just the body but also the heart and soul and pursued a licensure in acupuncture becoming one of the only local specialists who could perform acupuncture as a complement to standard treatment.

In his retirement, Dr. Trujillo was able to devote more time to his other passions in life, spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren and cooking cuisine from his home country of Cuba. Dr. Trujillo passed away on Sunday, February 12th.
