Capital Digestive Care is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Zilla Hussain, MD to our Rockville and Ijamsvile (Urbana) offices.
Dr. Hussain was inspired to become a physician because of a genuine desire to help others, combined with her natural interest in science. For her, the practice of medicine in its purest form is a combination of empathy and science. She strives to show her patients that they are cared for, heard, and treated with the utmost respect.
She is a board-certified, fellowship-trained gastroenterologist who specializes in advanced esophageal disorders and motility. She aims to provide her patients with evidence-based, cutting-edge care to deliver the highest standards of science that the field has to offer.
After earning her bachelor’s degree at New York University, Dr. Hussain attended medical school at the State University of New York in Buffalo. She completed her internship and residency training at Boston University Medical Center, followed by a gastroenterology fellowship and an advanced fellowship in esophageal diseases at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Dr. Hussain describes her approach to patient care as rigorous, disciplined, vigilant, and compassionate. “As many physicians do, I see myself as a healer,” Dr. Hussain said. “My goal is to make patients and their loved ones feel better as quickly as possible, and I do not stop until I exhaust all methods and pathways of doing just that.”
Before joining Capital Digestive Care, Dr. Hussain worked at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson. Prior to that, she served as an assistant professor of medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University and was a member of the medical staff at the Miriam Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital, and the Veterans Administration, all in Providence, RI.
While at Brown University, she received the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award three times: the Certificate of Recognition for Exemplary Teaching, the Positive Champion of the Learning Environment Award, and the Physician C.A.R.E Award. She is an author and contributor to leading peer-reviewed medical journals and textbooks, and she spent time teaching at a hospital in Rwanda and at Dartmouth University School of Medicine.
Dr. Hussain is a wife and a mother of two. She lives with her family in Maryland and enjoys creating art, cooking, baking, and adventuring with her family.
