Dr. Jessica Korman is currently participating in a clinical research project called the ANCHOR study as a sub-investigator. The goal of the ANCHOR study is to find out if a specific procedure can prevent anal cancer among HIV positive men and women. Although deaths from AIDS are down, anal cancer is on the rise for people living with HIV – the virus that causes AIDS.

Anal cancer is caused by Human Papillomavirus or HPV. In this eight year study, researchers will be following more than 5,000 subjects to determine the effectiveness of screening and to find out whether removing HPV-damaged cells can prevent anal cancer.

Currently, screening for anal cancer is not routine like screening for colon or cervical cancer but anal cancer is easiest to treat when caught early. To learn more about this study, please visit anchorstudy.org
